While thinking about those words of James Baldwin, International WorldPride Month is drawing to a close.
Together with the vibrant LGBTQIA+ community that lit up the city with colour, we celebrated in style at Space for Dance Art—with exhibitions, thoughtful and hilarious gatherings, and a workshop by Thais Di Marco. We are saving her performance, How to Save the Wild, for after the summer.
We’ll be back then too, proudly parading into the new season: the annual ICK Dance Parade arrives at Meervaart on 19 September!
But first, we wish you this: endless afternoons lying in the grass.

COMPANY
In one breath...
— ROCCOROCCAWETHESHAMELESSWETHEBREATH DONSINTUITIONMACHINEFASLLAVA
Throughout the past season, the body once again served as the point of departure.
From intimate solos to large-scale international co-productions, we explored themes of identity, community, spirituality, breath, ritual, friction and transformation.
We revived ROCCO/ROCCA, a work that explores the fragile boundary between strength and vulnerability. WE, the SHAMELESS celebrated a different kind of strength: the courage to take up space without shame, in an explosive encounter between dancer and alter ego. And, three years after its creation, WE, the BREATH finally toured the Netherlands, with breath at the heart of the choreography.
The co-production with Robin Coops’ DONS immersed audiences in a club setting, exploring the meaning of masculinity. Meanwhile, the co-production with Ballet de l’Opéra de Tunis, F.A.S.L. / فاصل, examined the space in between: the physical distance separating Europe and the Maghreb, as well as the mental space between what is left behind and the unknown that has yet to unfold.
The season was also marked by an intensified exploration of new technologies. In Portugal, the three-year European research project PREMIERE concluded with a live event. The project proved instrumental in the development of an AI Toolbox, which became a key source of inspiration for Intuition Machine. With the support awarded through DigitALL in early 2026, a new phase in the development of Intuition Machine could begin.
We closed the season with L.A.V.A., our international co-production with Compagnia Zappalà Danza: a powerful ode to the unpredictable forces of both nature and humanity. Following a striking preview in Pompeii and its world premiere in Amsterdam, the production embarks on an international tour this autumn.
We asked a great deal of our audiences.
We believe in a dance practice that is constantly evolving—one that raises new questions and is willing to venture into uncomfortable territory. It explores the physical limits of the body, engages with (geo)political borders as a subject, and examines the ethical boundaries of technological innovation.
In the coming season, we once again invite you to explore the world through dance, with the curious body as your point of departure.

ICK Dans Parade
— Heads held high. Eyes on the horizon. The parade is coming.
On 19 September, the annual ICK Parade returns to Meervaart.
The new season bursts into view as ICK presents a whirlwind glimpse of its many artistic voices—dynamic, unpolished and constantly in motion. Meet a range of makers, including the newest generation of ICK Next artists. Get a taste of the season ahead through sketches of works in progress, artistic experiments and brief encounters. Experience the moments where ideas intersect and cross-pollinate, where friction sparks new possibilities, and where something new has already begun to shine.

SPACE FOR DANCE ART
Late Summer at Space for Dance Art
— We Dance Together & Talent Hub
New at Space for Dance Art: the Talent Hub, a creative development programme for young makers and (amateur) dancers aged 15 to 25. Over seven Wednesday evenings, you’ll work with choreographer Sedrig Verwoert to develop your own artistic language. Using the Sensorium Toolkit as a starting point, you’ll have plenty of space to explore, move and create. The Talent Hub starts on 7 October — and there are still places available!
Our regular classes have also started again: Double Skin | Double Mind, ballet classes with the company, and We Dance Together. The latter starts tonight, led by Elisa Zuppini, and is already fully booked.

SPACE FOR DANCE ART
Dana Zemtsov
— Grachten Festival lands in Space for Dance Art
On 12 August, we are honoured to welcome Dana Zemtsov to Space for Dance Art as part of the Grachtenfestival. Widely regarded as one of the leading violists of her generation, Zemtsov has performed at venues including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Carnegie Hall, and has collaborated with musicians such as Janine Jansen, Martin Fröst and Giovanni Sollima.
For her concert at Space for Dance Art, Bach’s monumental Chaconne serves as the point of departure. The programme also journeys through the untamed energy of Fazıl Say, the folkloric sound world of Dobrinka Tabakova, and the astonishing virtuosity of Paganini.

— Intuition Machine keeps learning
Intuition Machine is back in the Lab. New AI, new sonification, new interactions—you could soon become part of it.
From 24 to 31 August, we will be testing at Space for Dance Art how a digital light body learns to move with and through people. A work in progress, constantly in motion.

INTUITION MACHINE

upcycling
The pace of technological development can sometimes feel dizzying. Together with international partners through the EU Horizon Heritage project PREMiERE, we worked on the development of an AI Toolbox that enables dancers to communicate with machines in real time.
This became a source of inspiration for Intuition Machine: through a breathtaking interplay of LED lights, the work reveals what the machine registers from the dancer’s movement sequences, feeding this information back into the creative process and allowing the creation to be upcycled. And sometimes, a pencil and a notebook are the best tools to make sense of it all…
