A first sign of spring on the horizon: preparations for ICK Fest on 28 March have begun.
We are dusting off BOLERO and revisit this work from a quarter of a century ago with fresh eyes; we want to offer an early glimpse of F.A.S.L. فاصل in the Netherlands; we want to make space for collective MAMM; we want to play our Dance Game REPLAY with AI instructions in our ears.
We want HAMLET, we want MoMo, we want to wash our brains. We want to talk about L.A.V.A. and the connection with Italy.
The body accelerates with uncontainable desire, and we open the doors wide to all dance lovers to move together, full of wanting. Elisa Zuppini sets the current in motion with her workshop De.sy.re in a new series of We Dance Together.
While further on in this newsletter you can decipher what all these names, abbreviations, and acronyms stand for, the tour of WE, the BREATH is in full swing—and tonight truly is the very last chance to see WE, the SHAMELESS.
Or is it? There are still a few desires on our list that we are saving for a special event at Frascati in May.
And what drives all this wanting?
The desire to connect through dance. So we hope to see you.

— The 8th ICK Fest is approaching!
On March 28, the 8th edition of ICK Fest will take place at Meervaart.
In a dazzling and challenging edition, ICK offers a glimpse into the past, present & future.
The program features a first presentation in the Netherlands of F.A.S.L. فاصل , in a double bill with a brand-new version of BOLERO, as well as a new performance by Collectief MAMM: RUIM.
Join us for a full evening program where you’ll encounter pop-up performances and vibrant exhibition visuals in the hallways & foyer. And it wouldn’t be ICK Fest without taking to the floor yourself: once again, you can fully immerse yourself in our virtual dance game, REPLAY!

Developments L.A.V.A.
— To climb the mountain
In the lead-up to the new international co-production L.A.V.A., we are pleased to take you behind the scenes. How does such a collaboration come into being, and how do choreographers from the Netherlands and Italy develop a shared creative process?
Each with a distinctly articulated method and practice, the dance universes of Greco & Scholten in the north and Zappalà in the south of Europe may at first seem far apart. The makers reflect on this in an interview to be published at a later stage. For now, we offer a first glimpse behind the veil.

We Dance Together
— Elisa Zuppini's De.sy.re
The new series of We Dance Together workshops, starting on 9 March, sold out in no time. Good news: a new edition will take place before the summer. Keep an eye on our schedule in May.
We Dance Together is a workshop series for anyone who wants to move—young or old, with or without experience. For eight evenings, the joy of dancing together is central, while you get to meet professional choreographers and artists.
The upcoming (unfortunately fully booked) edition is led by Elisa Zuppini. In her workshop De.sy.re, participants explore how movement emerges when the body organizes itself. Such exciting promise!

Double Skin/Double Mind - Ballet - Modern Technique
— Dance classes @ Space for Dance Art
March is full of opportunities to dance at Space for Dance Art!
In addition to workshops like We Dance Together, you can join Double Skin/Double Mind (DS/DM) open classes every Tuesday and Wednesday. These classes introduce you to ICK’s unique methodology, which is also the training used by the ICK dancers.
In March, there will also be DS/DM classes for advanced dancers, led by Barbara Meneses Gutierrez, one of ICK’s original dancers. In addition, there are classes in modern technique & countertechnique, and you can participate in the company’s ballet classes, which are only open to advanced dancers.

HAMLET Webinar
— Think inside the box
Hackathons, workshops, online lectures, and studio sessions: from 10 to 12 February, Think Inside The Box takes place.
The German university of fine arts HBKsaar and the Germany-based institute for strategic aesthetics K8 organise the event in collaboration with the European innovation projects IMPULSE, HAMLET, and CYANOTYPES.
Participants explore how the development of XR and AI is reshaping our ways of seeing—also in how we conceive of, experience, and preserve cultural and digital heritage. Everyone is welcome to take part; no specific skills are required to think and act together at the cutting edge.
ICK Dans Amsterdam also participates, presenting its ongoing research project as a partner in HAMLET: a creative hub where artists, game developers, and cultural professionals share knowledge toward the development of human-centred AI.

MoMo
— The State of Dramaturgy by Suzan Tunca
On 1 January 2026, the association Motorisch Moment (MoMo) was officially founded: the first Dutch professional association for dramaturgs. The festive launch will take place on 11 February from 16:00 at Theater de Richel in Amsterdam. During this gathering, the board will present a manifesto, Suzan Tunca will deliver The State of Dramaturgy, and De Theatertroep will present a theatrical column.

Collectief MAMM
— RUIM on Tour
The new performance RUIM by Collectief MAMM will be presented in various theatres throughout May.
One reviewer already found themselves running out of adjectives: dazzling musicality, virtuosity in movement, and effortless humour.
RUIM is a performance about the maddening housing crisis. Four twenty-somethings search for a way forward through raw acrobatics and boundless imagination.
You can experience the performance in May in cities including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Haarlem, and Alkmaar.

— Trevoga at hell’s doorstep
On 20 & 21 February you can see them in Frascati: Perhaps the most exciting contemporary collective of emerging dance makers: Trevoga dives with its new performance Xx-63 into a world of desire, seduction, and the dark side of contemporary escapism. Their explosive commentary on the contemporary condition, once again results in a scintillating performance, where dance, image, theatre, and electronic soundscapes merge into a dystopian dreamscape.

In March, Elisa Zuppini hosts the We Dance Together workshop series at Space for Dance Art. The Italian dancer and choreographer developed her workshop, De.sy.re., around the idea of space as a field of relations, in which elements simultaneously take on the roles of performer, event, and instigator for one another and for themselves.

On 12 March, ICK Dans Amsterdam will be present with a presentation of Fernando Troya’s A PELO during the Brainwash Night “safe and sound”.
Alongside performers, philosophers, writers, and researchers engaging with themes such as protection, conflict, autonomy, and connectedness, Troya adapts his acclaimed performance especially for a club setting.
