Moving forward sometimes also means looking back: we’re celebrating a small milestone to mark five years of Space for Dance Art, before hopping on the tram and heading to Meervaart, where it will also show at the ICK Dance Parade that whatever drives us forward always carries the traces of what came before.

ICK Dans Parade
— Heads held high. Eyes on the horizon. The parade is coming.
On 19 September, the annual ICK Parade returns to Meervaart.
The new season bursts into view as ICK presents a whirlwind glimpse of its many artistic voices—dynamic, unpolished and constantly in motion. Meet a range of makers, including the newest generation of ICK Next artists. Get a taste of the season ahead through sketches of works in progress, artistic experiments and brief encounters. Experience the moments where ideas intersect and cross-pollinate, where friction sparks new possibilities, and where something new has already begun to shine.

L.A.V.A. on Tour
— Kick off Tour L.A.V.A. in October
In October, the Dutch tour of L.A.V.A. gets underway, followed by a tour of Italy in November and December. The tour kicks off on 1 October in Groningen, before travelling on to Eindhoven, The Hague and Delft later that same week. Check our calendar for the full performance schedule!
The Friction Field
At www.lavalive.nl or www.lavalive.it, you can experience the evolution of the performance live: follow where we are, keep up with the latest developments surrounding Mount Etna, which has been active again since August, hear what’s happening with the choreographers and dancers, and marvel at the beauty of flowing lava through the images left to us by volcanologist couple Katia and Maurice Krafft.

An Introduction
— New Next Dancers & Soundtechnician
Every year, a new group of young dancers joins ICK to form the Junior Company ICK Next. For one year, they follow a curriculum designed to support their development as dancers, while also occasionally joining the company in (parts of) performances.
This year, we are delighted to introduce:
Nina Knox, Mateo Couce Moreno, Ulysse Bertin, Raxel Kempenaar and Gaia Traverso.
We wish them a fruitful year filled with growth and development — but, of course, also plenty of joy as they embark on their journey with ICK.
Less in the spotlight, but no less important: in the coming period, our technical team will be strengthened by sound technician Rodrigo Tejedor Corredera.

Residence Marta Ciapinna
— CATALOGO
From 14 to 25 September, Italian dancer Marta Ciappina will be working with ICK on CATALOGO. In this new performance, her body becomes the vessel for four different choreographic voices: Silvia Gribaudi, Francesca Pennini / CollettivO CineticO, Sotterraneo and our own Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten. Each will create a contribution for Ciappina, without meeting her beforehand.
ICK is a co-production partner of CATALOGO. During the ICK Dance Parade, we’ll get a first glimpse of the work, ahead of its premiere on 31 October at the Romaeuropa Festival.

— Cheers to Wijs!
Our partner Wijs is hosting an open day on 19 September at its new location in Amsterdam Noord: Wijs Health on Bercylaan. This is where physiotherapy, training and movement come together. Throughout the day, you can explore the new space and try out a range of classes. From 5pm onwards, the opening will be celebrated with drinks. A wonderful opportunity to raise a glass to a partnership that puts the body at its heart.

Five years Space for Dance Art
— a small celebration
After years of a nomadic existence, ICK opened Space for Dance Art five years ago: a dance house in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. A permanent home for ICK, as well as an open house where makers, dancers, researchers, students, partners and local residents come together, work and develop new ideas.
On 11 September, we’ll celebrate with House in Motion. A house in motion, with its doors wide open. Drop in throughout the day, with a public rehearsal in the late afternoon and, of course… drinks!

SPACE FOR DANCE ART
Experience ADE @ Space for Dance Art
— White Space & Smile
During ADE, Space for Dance Art transforms into a playground of dance, light, music and AI. In White Space by Matthias Oostrik, a rotating sculpture of blue and white light responds to the movements of the audience. By moving together and aligning their positions, visitors also transform the space between them.
You can also experience SMILE, Oostrik’s AI installation, which transforms your portrait into an eerily perfect version of yourself. ICK Next adds the living body to the mix with a short dance performance.

SPACE FOR DANCE ART
Late Summer at Space for Dance Art
— We Dance Together & Talent Hub
New at Space for Dance Art: the Talent Hub, a creative development programme for young makers and (amateur) dancers aged 15 to 25. Over seven Wednesday evenings, you’ll work with choreographer Sedrig Verwoert to develop your own artistic language. Using the Sensorium Toolkit as a starting point, you’ll have plenty of space to explore, move and create. The Talent Hub starts on 7 October — and there are still places available!
Our regular classes have also started again: Double Skin | Double Mind, ballet classes with the company, and We Dance Together. The latter starts tonight, led by Elisa Zuppini, and is already fully booked.

ACADEMY
International Dance Study @ ICK
— Research Residency Giacomo de Luca and Elena Molon
How do you pass on a choreography, and what role does the rehearsal director play in that process? With the support of Culture Moves Europe, Giacomo de Luca and Elena Molon are conducting research at ICK. They are also exploring how the principles of Double Skin | Double Mind can be translated into a different choreographic context.
Their residency focuses on transmission, training and the creative process, with an emphasis on developing a clear way of working while also safeguarding the wellbeing of dancers. They will take the knowledge gained from the residency with them and share it within the Italian and wider European dance field.

ICK @ Ars Electronica
— Dancing Dialogues (With(out)AI)
The Ars Electronica Festival has been running since 1979. At the time, it sought to embrace the emergence of the digital revolution as an opportunity to critically reflect on the possible futures of this development at the intersection of art, technology and society.
These questions remain as urgent as ever as the digital revolution continues to accelerate, and the festival continues to ask them.
This year, ICK will be part of the festival on 11 September, drawing on its knowledge of dance and experience with technology to take the next steps in exploring what lies ahead.

EDN Atelier
— Dance meets Technology
On 13 and 14 October, ICK will organise and host the first in-person meeting of the European Dance Network (EDN) Digital Working Group at Space for Dance Art. Over the course of two days, dance makers and creative programmers will explore together what new technologies can bring to dance and the creative process.
They will experiment with AI, movement, sound and image, working with tools developed through the European research projects HAMLET and PREMIERE. Studio experiments will alternate with conversations: what happens when the body and technology start working together?

A Pelo
— The body as battlefield of queer desire
The performance by Fernando Troya is titled A Pelo—literally: on the hair, on bare skin, as in riding without a saddle, without protection or preparation. Troya exposes himself to the utmost, drawing on a dark period from his past, and has created a performance not meant to please you, but to take hold of you. A Pelo will be performed again on 3 October as part of the Nederlandse Dansdagen in Maastricht.
