About ICK / Space for Dance Art
ICK is an international choreographic arts center rooted in Amsterdam Nieuw-West and based at Space for Dance Art: an open house for dance, research, and exchange. Here, we work daily on the future of the dancing body.
ICK consists of a professional ensemble and the junior company ICK-Next, where emerging talent develops and grows. Under the artistic direction of founders Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, we continue to build a contemporary repertoire centered on the intuitive, thinking body.
Our productions tour nationally and internationally to theaters and festivals, while our studios serve as spaces where new creations emerge and where artists, dancers, students, and local residents come together for classes, talks, and artistic research.

ICK is Looking for an All-Round Technician with a Specialization in Sound (M/F/X)

As a Sound Technician, you will be responsible for preparing and executing all sound-related technical aspects of performances and events. You will work closely within a small team alongside the resident Lighting Technician, Production Manager, and Artistic Directors.
We are looking for someone who is interested in committing to ICK Dans Amsterdam for the longer term and who is excited about being closely involved in the artistic development of our performances and events.

What Will You Do?
• Prepare, create, and archive sound designs for productions in the Netherlands and abroad
• Develop sound designs for ICK’s presentation venue, Space for Dance Art
• Operate sound equipment during performances
• Carry out technical preparations for productions
• Set up and dismantle all technical theater equipment for touring productions (nationally and internationally)
• Maintain the systems and equipment in the rehearsal studios
• Manage, maintain, and when necessary repair technical equipment and storage facilities
• Support the production team with ad hoc tasks related to daily operations and events

Who Are You?
• You have at least an MBO+ level of education and thinking, an affinity with the performing arts, and several years of relevant experience
• You possess up-to-date knowledge and extensive experience working with modern theater and sound technology and are willing to continue developing your skills
• You are familiar with a variety of mixing consoles, loudspeaker systems, and both analog and digital audio systems
• You are enthusiastic, curious, responsible, and willing to work irregular hours, often including weekends
• You are open to occasional international travel
• You are able to work both independently and as part of a team
• You have strong social and communication skills
• You are organized while also capable of improvising when needed
• You have knowledge of safety regulations related to rigging, working at height, and the use of machinery, equipment, and tools
• You have a good command of Dutch and/or English, both written and spoken
• You are eager to learn and committed to keeping your knowledge up to date
• Preferably, you live in or near Amsterdam and possess a valid driver’s license
• You take initiative and enjoy finding practical solutions to challenges

ICK is looking for a Technical Intern (M/F/X)! (BOL)

Hours: 0.6 – 0.8 FTE

Internship Allowance: €375 per month (fulltime, per ratio)

About the Internship
As an all-round technical intern, you’ll work closely with our technical producer to help make sure our productions run smoothly—from preparation to performance. You’ll be part of the technical planning, help coordinate with venues (in the Netherlands and abroad) and occasionally join us on the road during national tours. You will learn the ins and outs of the technical side of dance and stage productions.

At ICK Dans Amsterdam, no two days are the same. We work on large-scale national productions, in-house productions and organize online classes and talks. It’s a varied, hands-on role where you’ll learn a lot and be involved in a wide range of creative projects.

What You’ll Be Doing
As part of our technical team, your tasks may include:
• Prepping technical equipment for tours and shows
• Assisting on the floor during representation build-ups and break-downs.
• Researching new technologies for upcoming productions
• Coordinating logistics and schedules for performances
• Gathering technical info from theaters and venues
• Help with the maintenance of the equipment and the organization of the storage

Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
• Has a genuine interest in theater and dance
• Has a basic understanding of audio, lighting, and video
• Is curious, proactive, and pays attention to detail
• Knows their way around QLab, Dante, or Vectorworks (nice to have, not required)
• Enjoys being part of a small, dynamic team
• Takes initiative and likes to plan ahead
• Is open to working flexible hours, including occasional evenings (always in consultation)

We work on large-scale (inter)national productions, in-house productions and organize (online) classes and talks in Space for Dance Art. It’s a varied, hands-on role where you’ll learn a lot and be involved in a wide range of creative projects.

What You’ll Be Doing
As an all-round production intern, you’ll work closely with our production leader to help make sure our productions run smoothly—from preparation to performance. You’ll be part of the planning and coordination of the performances and events we organize. This role involves hands-on coordination and making concrete arrangements with a wide range of suppliers and both national and international artists. While your base is at the office, you’ll regularly be on the move—attending meetings or rushing from place to place to ensure everything runs smoothly before and during a production. You’ll maintain frequent communication with external partners and artists, ensuring that all agreements are honored, and every detail is flawlessly executed.

Who We’re Looking For
During your internship, you will have the opportunity to learn and gradually take on more responsibilities, depending on your learning goals. We are looking for someone who is a strong communicator, both in writing and verbally. You have a curious mindset, work with precision, and are not afraid to dive into new challenges. Familiarity with the Dutch cultural landscape is a plus.
You’re someone who rolls up their sleeves when ad hoc tasks arise and can thrive in a small, fast-paced team. You’re able to take on assignments, ask critical questions when receiving instructions, and once you’re underway, you aim to think ahead, take initiative, and carry out your tasks successfully.

Would you like to be part of our volunteer community?

ICK Dans Amsterdam is a leading platform for contemporary dance, founded by choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten. As the resident company of the Meervaart Theater in Amsterdam, ICK produces international dance performances with both its own dance ensemble and a junior company (ICK-Next). Additionally, ICK supports the development of young talent and provides space for research and educational projects. ICK is based in the Space for Dance Art, where various cultural activities take place.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join the team at ICK’s Space for Dance Art.

As a volunteer, you’ll mainly support our team during events and performances, helping to create a warm and welcoming experience for our audience and community.
Your tasks could range from hosting and welcoming guests, guiding the audience, and selling merchandise to preparing and managing the bar, among other things.

We aim to build an inclusive, connected volunteer team by organizing social get-togethers. These events will help everyone get to know each other and ICK better.
