DOUBLE SKIN / DOUBLE MIND the method — Manual for Dance Practitioners
— A guide to the intuitive body
Developed by choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, Double Skin / Double Mind – The Method has been the beating heart of their work since the 1990s. This unique dance method connects body, breath, emotion, and intention into one continuous line of thought and movement.
The manual offers dancers, teachers, choreographers, and researchers the opportunity to explore the fundamental principles, exercises, and pedagogical approaches of DS/DM. It reveals the artistic intention behind the movements and provides practical tools to apply, investigate, and embed the method within contemporary dance practice, creation, and education.
The publication builds on the earlier research project Capturing Intention: documentation, analysis and notation research based on the work of Emio Greco | PC (ICK/AHK, 2007), edited by Scott deLahunta. Together, the two books form a diptych on dance knowledge as a living, thinking, and embodied practice—one that continues to move and evolve through bodies, time, and people.
The book includes contributions by Marijke Hoogenboom (Director of Performing Arts & Film and Head of Dossier Research at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste), Bertha Bermúdez Pascual (a dance researcher, former dancer with Ballet Frankfurt and Emio Greco | PC, and a pioneer of the dance research culture at ICK), and featuring illustrations by ICK dancer Hiroki Nungaki.
