On 12 August, we are honoured to welcome Dana Zemtsov to Space for Dance Art as part of the Grachtenfestival.
With Bach’s monumental Chaconne as its point of departure, Dana Zemtsov explores the full expressive range of the viola solo repertoire. From the grandeur of Bach to the untamed energy of Fazıl Say, the folkloric sound world of Dobrinka Tabakova and the dazzling virtuosity of Paganini. The programme also features Tárrega’s beloved Recuerdos de la Alhambra.
Dana Zemtsov is widely regarded as one of the leading violists of her generation. Gramophone magazine praised her playing as “so perfectly tuned” that it can sound like an entire chamber orchestra. She has performed at venues including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Carnegie Hall, and has collaborated with musicians such as Janine Jansen, Martin Fröst and Giovanni Sollima. She is the recipient of the Kersjes Award and formerly represented the Netherlands at Eurovision Young Musicians.
