Sedrig Verwoert

Sedrig Verwoert is affiliated with ICK Dans Amsterdam as a guest artist. As a dancer and choreographer, he works at the intersection of performance, visual art and contemporary dance. Within ICK, he contributes to the artistic programme as a performing artist and maker.

Verwoert was born in 1992 in Suriname and moved to Amsterdam at the age of three, where he later trained at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. He subsequently developed his career internationally, including periods in New York and Israel. In the Netherlands, he was engaged as a dancer with ICK under the direction of Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten. These experiences across diverse artistic contexts form an important foundation for his current practice.

As a choreographer, Verwoert has developed a distinct artistic voice. For Dutch National Ballet, he created several works and was a guest choreographer from 2019 to 2020, followed by his appointment as Young Creative Associate from 2021 to 2024. Within that context, he deepened his exploration of choreography in relation to music, visual culture and contemporary realities. At Theater Rotterdam, he also worked on new creations and research projects, where space for experimentation and artistic development was central.

In addition to his work for theatre companies, Verwoert is active in museum and interdisciplinary contexts. His practice moves between stage, exhibition space and other live environments, approaching choreography as a concentrated event that unfolds in direct relation to audience and surroundings.

During the 2024–2025 season, Verwoert was affiliated with Productiehuis Theater Rotterdam, where he worked on Strange Fruit 2.0 and De Rode Palulu. He also contributed to the exhibition Josephine Baker: A Life of Resistance in collaboration with the Resistance Museum.

As a guest artist at ICK, Verwoert is involved in a range of activities. He performs in company productions, develops new work within the context of ICK-Next and participates in artistic research and development trajectories. In addition, he contributes to educational and public-oriented activities of ICK and Space for Dance Art.

This collaboration is grounded in mutual artistic development. ICK supports Verwoert’s growth as a maker and performer by providing access to studio facilities, artistic guidance and professional networks. At the same time, his practice enriches the company with new perspectives and working methods.

In his role as guest artist, Sedrig Verwoert contributes to an ongoing exchange between experience and renewal within ICK Dans Amsterdam.
