Bird of Paradise is the name of both a flower and a pole dance move. A pose in which the body opens up as if it were about to take flight. One leg remains firmly rooted to the ground, whilst the other is raised high behind the body. The back arches, the chest opens, the spine curved like a sunrise.
In that single moment, the dancer becomes both human and bird: suspended between strength and surrender, between control and enchantment. We invite you to step into this space and entrust your shortcomings, desires and doubts to the magical birds.
Three creators, three distinct worlds, one shared movement: reclaiming space. In this performance, the body becomes a place of resistance, memory and imagination. The choreographers, Elisa Zuppini, Fay van Baar and Thais Di Marco, challenge existing structures and open up new perspectives on femininity, identity, complexity and decolonisation. Their work demonstrates how dance can provoke, liberate and redefine who is allowed to be seen.
