Connecting the Dots #2

We are responsible for the world in which we find ourselves, if only because we are the only sentient force which can change it.
— James Baldwin

On Monday evening, December 8, ICK’s Space for Dance Art opens its doors for a special WinterPride edition: Connecting the Dots #2.

ICK Dans Amsterdam and The Pink Embassy invite you to Connecting the Dots #2, a festive evening where diverse LGBTQIA+ communities, residents of Amsterdam Nieuw-West, and cultural professionals explore new forms of solidarity, intersectionality, and dialogue.

Following a communal meal, guest speakers Alex Bakhuis, Rick Busscher, Nilay Ceber, Inca Luluh, and Vincenzo Turiano will share how they foster community spirit and solidarity within their respective fields. This will be followed by a collective conversation in which participants are encouraged to ask questions, listen actively, discuss internalized biases, and develop impactful strategies for mutual respect, with a ripple effect into broader society. There will also be a short performance by Laura Boser, and Junior Appiah will create live drawings on paper, capturing the evening in sketches. The evening concludes with a social gathering to chat informally and connect.

Connecting the Dots #2 is organised by The Pink Embassy in collaboration with Queer365, Colourful Pride, Queer Currents, Ondersteboven, and ICK Dans Amsterdam. This edition focuses on Amsterdam Nieuw-West and takes place at ICK’s home base, Space for Dance Art. One of our objectives is to strengthen the cultural tapestry of the neighbourhood, with a shared commitment to safety, inclusion, and positive change.

— Laura Boser (she/they) is a German visual and performance artist based in Amsterdam. She studied Fine Arts in Nuremberg and at Tanzfabrik Berlin, earning bachelor’s degrees in Visual Arts and in Object-Theatre and Mime.

For this Connecting the Dots #2 event, Laura will present a short 5-6 minute excerpt from her work re:shape or headless into the sea, previously shown at venues such as Frascati and De Brakke Grond.

The performance features 2-3 ‘wobbles’—wearable art sculptures made from soft materials and fabric. Through these, the performer transforms into a new body: half human, half wobble. This work explores the fluidity of the human body and challenges societal definitions imposed upon it. It is inspired by jellyfish and other marine invertebrates: queer animals existing beyond the binary.

— Junior Appiah (he/him) is a visual artist based in Almere, who graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design in Education from KHU in 2024.

For this Connecting the Dots #2 event, Junior will sit at a table and draw live on paper, capturing the evening through a series of sketches.
