PASSIONE

No better language to depict the passion story than dance.
— Emio and Pieter

The Power of Vulnerability with Bach’s St. Matthew Passion as a Guide.

In dialogue with Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, reworked and performed live by composer and all-round musician Franck Krawczyk, an electrifying dance concert unfolds between seven dancers and a musician. Driven by seven necessities and seven different tempos, the dancers turn their bodies inside out and respond to this profound music with exhilarating gestures and joyful wonder. Suffering, sensuality, and sacrifice are awakened by the force of the piano and the melancholy of the accordion.

Passione is a reworking of Passione in due from 2012, a duet between Franck Krawczyk and Emio Greco. This performance is part of their ongoing research into the relationship between dance and music. As with Boléro, they shed new light from a dance perspective on a world-famous piece of music. The dancers do not move to the notes or the rhythm but respond intuitively, guided by a heightened physical awareness.
