Collectief MAMM

Collectief MAMM, consisting of Maxime Abbenhues (Netherlands, 1997) and Mees Meeuwsen (Netherlands, 1998), met during the Urban Contemporary Dance course at the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK), where they both graduated in 2020. They found each other in their shared love for partnering and acrobatics. In their work, they develop partnering techniques that are not based on strength, but on sharing momentum to move another body, aspiring to make no distinction between traditional partnering roles.

Their performances explore the phenomenon of “the twenty-something” in all its complexity, contradiction, and superficiality. Their concepts are always rooted in how they, as young adults, view today’s world, providing an insight into a still-often misunderstood generation. During their New Adventures residency in 2023, Collectief MAMM began their movement research into the use of bungee cords as a metaphor for today’s inability to stop and stand still. They were further developing this research into a performance called No Strings Attached.

Collectief MAMM is currently supported by the Nieuwe Makersregeling (Fund for Performing Arts / FPK) from 2024 to 2026. Their work has been presented at numerous festivals and theatres in the Netherlands, as well as internationally in countries such as Korea, Italy, France, the UK, and Germany.
