Together with Roberto Zappalà, the dancers of his company, sound designer Salvador Breed and costume designer Clifford Portier, we travel to Mount Etna.

At the volcanological centre in Catania, volcanoes around the world are digitally monitored. Earthly tremors appear as real-time data. Tangible vibration becomes a visual abstraction here.

On the mountain: pressing silence. Snow speckled with black. Black earth and smoking snow. Rock—from grit to massive blocks. Lines of erosion in the trees. A lava tunnel with, deep inside, a solitary bat. L.A.V.A. moves from this experience: pressure, subsoil, shift.

We absorb the resonances into our bodies.
